Rapid Construction of Low-Cost Disaster-Resilient Tin Shed Houses for Coastal and Char Communities

Background

The coastal regions of Bangladesh are highly vulnerable to cyclones, storm surges, tidal floods, and other climate-induced disasters. Every year, thousands of families lose their homes and remain displaced for long periods due to the high cost and slow construction process of conventional housing.

To address this challenge, ClimAd Bangladesh proposes a cost-effective, disaster-resilient tin shed housing model that can be rapidly constructed within 3–5 days using locally available materials and labor. The model is designed especially for low-income and disaster-affected households in coastal and char areas.

2. Project Goal

To support vulnerable coastal communities by providing affordable, disaster-resilient, and quickly deployable housing solutions after cyclones and natural disasters.

3. Objectives

  • Construct low-cost resilient houses for disaster-affected families.
  • Reduce post-disaster displacement and shelter insecurity.
  • Ensure access to safe sanitation facilities.
  • Support rapid recovery after cyclones and floods
  • Promote rapid reconstruction using local materials and skilled community labor.
  • Reduce health and protection risks for women, children, and elderly people
  • Improve community resilience against future cyclones and floods.
